SUNDAY RUNDAY – JULY EDITION
18 good buggers threw off their duvets early on a Sunday morning, braving the frosty fog and headed out to Taylors Mistake for the 2nd L2RT Sunday Run. Like Jimmy, I also love the trails out at Taylors and wanted to share a great loop on some of the lesser run trails.
We set off just after 8:30 and there was no gentle warm-up as we headed straight up ‘the 193 steps’ and up to the top of Scarborough Bluffs track where the first of the hidden Whittakers slabs was found. As we skirted around the Bluffs track the fog finally gave way to lovely sunshine and the mesmerising view of the Southern Alps nestled just above the inversion cloud. After crossing over Evan’s Pass road we swapped out rocks scrambling for muddy fun on the fantastically flowy Capt Thomas Track. 2/3’s of the way up the track a loud “WOOP” let everyone know that had Chris bagged the second hidden Whittakers. A breather at the top of the track provided the perfect opportunity to give a quick overview of exactly who this Captain Joseph Thomas fella actually was and what he did to get a track named after him.
We got the final bit of vert out the way as we skirted round the Godley Head track. The final Whittakers treasure was found, not by Grant…although he did manage to seagull himself some bites of it to keep his chat game strong for the last few kms. The final few km’s down the Taylors Escape track were a lovely meandering descent in the warming sun before finishing off back where we started.
Thanks to everyone who came along and we’ll look forward to welcoming you all at the next Sunday run. Quote of the run “running in front of Grant is like having your personal podcast but without the need for headphones”
Thanks Coach Greg for the run report!!
