THE FIRST SUNDAY RUNDAY

THE FIRST SUNDAY RUNDAY

The month of June arrived quickly and so did the winter weather! To brighten up the month and the mood, Live to Run Trail decided to inject an extra dose of trail running time into the calendar with a Sunday Runday outing. Coach Jimmy was delighted to plot and plan a weekend excursion on the trails. Jimmy reports…

Taylors Mistake is one of my favourite locations in Christchurch. It is not a practical location for our weekday L2RT runs, so the Sunday Runday was a great time to use Taylors Mistake as our starting point. It offered a new outlook for the eyes and fresh terrain for the feet.

A group of 20 runners were treated to a fresh but dry start to the morning. As we trail runners know, there is nothing like an incline to warm the body up. The group started on the smooth and scenic Godley head track, heading away from Taylors past Boulder Bay. The important social factor was enjoyed as people talked, chatted and debriefed the week en route. The return leg provided an opportunity to satisfy the adventure skills, while some people might have described us as using sheep tracks, I thought it was the perfect trail network to get some vert and tag a Trig before completing the loop by returning to Taylors Mistake.

The runners enjoyed a great excuse to make a trip to Taylors Mistake, learn new route options in this area and have a social run with fellow trail lovers! A small number of extra special runners had worked up so much heat on the hills that they needed to go for a swim to cool off!

Keep an eye out for future Sunday Runday excursions!

Thanks, Coach Jimmy for the first Sunday Runday report!
